HOLISTIC HEALTHCARE OPTIONS
Holistic medicine is a term used to describe therapies to
treat the body mind and spirit of a patient. It is based on
the theory that the patient is not defined by their illness
but by an imbalance in their overall physical, mental, and
spiritual well-being. This allows the practitioner to treat
the patient as a whole not just the illness. The patient learns
how to optimize their own health and will learn to practice
techniques that will help them to achieve and maintain balance
in their lives. Many holistic techniques are used in conjunction
with therapies and medications that are prescribed by a physician,
this form of medicine is called complementary medicine. Using
both techniques allows the patient's symptoms to be alleviated
and often accelerates healing.
Holistic therapies often include but are not limited to nutrition,
herbal medicine, energy medicine, meditation, prayer, traditional
chinese medicine, ayurvedic medicine, chiropractic, massage,
homeopathy, stress reduction and some forms of psychotherapy.
Very often a practitioner of one discipline will refer a patient
to a practitioner of one of the other therapies to enhance
the patient's well being. Balancing of the body, mind and
spirit is the goal to allow true healing to occur.
